Levels of Development in Organizations

In the arena of business and not-for-profit organizations, strides are being taken to structure participation and mutual respect into decision-making. There are many companies today whose vision goes far beyond increased profitability towards higher maturity and fulfilment. The following model, develop by the Canadian Institute for Cultural Affairs, describes emerging forms of leadership, participation, and organization. It shows four major phases in the development journey of organizations, of which the hierarchical organization is the most basic.
